Christ the Divine Teacher School has been serving the young people of the Latrobe Catholic community since 1990. However, our network of alumni has been growing since Abraham Lincoln was president! CDT was formed through the merger of the Holy Family, St. John the Evangelist and St. Vincent Basilica parish schools to create a united school community.
We welcome back our alumni and encourage you to share your information with us to stay connected with the current school community and your fellow graduates. Also, please consider donating to Christ the Divine Teacher School to help continue the strong, educational legacy; 150 years of history can’t be wrong!

Alumni Spotlight
Matt and Blase are just two of the examples of the wonderful students who pass through our halls. Our school allows children to grow and discover the God-given gifts in each of them. When they move from our caring walls, they leave as confident young people ready for the next step in their educational journey.

CDT History
Christ the Divine Teacher School, a regional Catholic school in the Latrobe area, was formed in 1990 from the merger of Holy Family, St. John the Evangelist and St. Vincent Basilica parish schools. CDT originally opened to students in Preschool through Eighth Grade, however the Seventh and Eighth Grade programs were discontinued in 2011. In 2007, CDT welcomed new students from the recently closed Sacred Heart School in Youngstown, adding to the rich history of the school and collection of diverse alumni.
In the past few years, the school has expanded to afford students even greater opportunities. The new St. Jerome Library and Media Center was opened in 2013, including a brand new classroom, expanded library selection and a mobile iPad library complete with 20 iPads for student use to allow hands-on, on-the-go learning and the building of an eBook catalog.
In the 2016-17 school year, Christ the Divine Teacher has instituted a Classical curriculum. The focus of this type of curriculum is to develop individual thinking, asking what is true and good. Classes build skills in logic, debate, public speaking, clear reasoning, research, writing and communicating. Students explore specific time periods in history which are tied into their coursework in English, reading, geography and religion classes.
In 2017, we were pleased to reopen the 7th grade to further expand our Logic School, and in 2019, we reopened the 8th grade.
Holy Family School
Holy Family School was founded in 1861 when the first parish school was built. The Sisters of Mercy were brought in to staff the school in 1868 and they served the school until its closure. The current CDT school building on Chestnut Street is the former Holy Family School site, which was dedicated in 1961.
St. John School
St. John the Evangelist School was founded in 1903. Father Joseph Frania brought in the Bernardine Sisters to staff the school in 1924 and then secured the services of the Holy Family Sisters two years later. The school was closed during the Great Depression but reopened in the 1940s to include First through Eighth Grade under Father Bronislaus E. Mieruniski.
St. Vincent School
St. Vincent School opened on Feb. 7, 1929. The Sisters of Mercy began staffing the school in 1936. The school provided its own bus transportation to students and expanded to add a cafeteria in 1955. Grades Seven and Eight were eliminated in 1970 and a Kindergarten program was added two years later. A Preschool program was started in 1986.
