Below is information concerning a special project that the Christ the Divine Teacher School community participated in during Lent of 2010. Since the Partners in Progress organization continues to work with the needy, this information has been left on the school's web page so that those who may want more information will have access to it.
Lenten Project 2010
In 2010, for a school-wide Lenten Project, Christ the Divine Teacher School's students and families family worked together to support the Sisters of St. Antoine of Fondwa, Haiti. Fondwa is a small village of about 8,000 people located in the mountains south of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Partners in Progress is a group from Ligonier that has been working closely with the Sisters for several years. They have built a church, school, clinic, guest center, and orphanage. At 4:47 p.m. on Tuesday, January 12, 2010, a 7.0 earthquake shook Haiti. Most of the buildings at Fondwa were destroyed. There was much destruction, death, and serious injuries. Our school students, families, and friends were asked to set aside an empty plastic bottle to throw in their extra change during the 2010 Lenten season. Mr. Richard Gosser, executive director of Partners in Progress, and Fr. Fred Byrnes, O.S.B gave a presentation to our CDT school/families at that time. Both men have gone, and continue to go, to Haiti to work with the missions there.
